This auction is for a 1996 Dodge Caravan with just over 85,000 miles. It was used as a secondary vehicle for long distance family trips and the occasional trip to the grocery store. This vehicle has been recently serviced and includes a variety of aftermarket upgrades, including a JVC sound system (12 disc CD changer, cassette deck and AM/FM radio), a security alarm, an immobilizer and power locks. It seats seven comfortably and features removable seats in the second and third rows, providing ample storage for transporting large objects.
The engine runs well and has never given me any trouble. The transmission was replaced about a year ago and has shifted smoothly ever since. The tires were recently changed and have less than 15,000 miles on them (probably closer to 10,000). The front breaks were replaced at about the same time with high quality Brembo pads. Aside from the power locks, all of the vehicle’s electronic components are in good working order to the best of my knowledge. However, there are a few mechanical and cosmetic issues that I will attempt to describe to the best of my ability.
Mechanical Issues:
- Within the past month or so, the vehicle began to stall at sporadic intervals. After stalling, I could start it up again and continue driving. According to my mechanic, the cause is most likely a faulty fuel pump.
- The air conditioner was serviced approximately a year ago and worked well up until this summer. However, the compressor gave out and the AC is currently non-functional.
- Aftermarket power locks were installed in conjunction with the alarm system. Initially they were fully operational via the alarm remote. As of late, the locks open via the alarm remote but have to be closed manually.
Cosmetic Issues:
- Exterior: There is a small dent on the front left fender along with some scratches on the fender and the bumper in the same area. There is also a scratch on the lower portion of the driver’s side door. The paint is original and in good condition for a twelve year old vehicle. However, there is some peeling above the rear door.
- Interior: There are two minor tears in the fabric above the driver’s and passenger side doors. There are some stains on the carpet from beverage spills. Overall, the interior is in good condition and the vehicle has never been smoked in to the best of my knowledge.
This is a great buy for anyone looking for a cheap, reliable low-mileage minivan to transport people or goods. Aside from the faulty fuel pump, there are no major mechanical problems, and with only 85,000 miles, this minivan still has many more years left under the hood.
