A very correct and unrestored example of The Machine Built for Unlimited Touring. This pretty Black Goose retains the original factory finish including the hand pin striping and silk-screened tank logos, not the reproduction decals you normally see. It has the original petcocks marked in Italian, plus a number of other minor factory details like the generator cover and airbox. Other than the fuel line and spark plug leads, the bike remains true and proper, even wearing the Pirelli block-tread tires from decades past. A unique feature of the 1974 El Dorado is the quad leading shoe front drum brake from the V-7 Sport; a surprisingly effective drum brake upgrade available for only a short time prior to the appearance of disc brakes.
Over the last 35 years it has suffered a few minor scrapes and dents, by far the worst being a light dent on the lower right side of the gas tank, not from a wreck, more like something tumbled against the tank, see photo. There are two scuffs on the original seat cover, boot scrapes and rock dings here and there, one tool box lock fell out, and there is minor oxidation on various metal surfaces - just enough patina to let you know it has not been redone.
Everything works as it should, the exception being the turn signals which recently quit but I’ll investigate further. Shift pattern is left side, UP for first, down for the rest, five speeds. Starter spins well, battery holds a charge, engine sounds quiet and runs smooth, idles easily, and starts quickly. Petcocks weep a little gas, the mufflers have minor dents, the headlight is not all that bright, and the tires are antiques - you'll probably want new ones. But that’s about it; and Man it sure sounds good and feels right on a fine summer evening.
Title is clear, and the bike is ready to ride. Please ask questions often and inform me of any details I should be aware of.
On Jun-30-08 at 09:27:43 PDT, seller added the following information:Sure enough, the problem was the flasher unit, I installed a different one and the turn signals work fine. I also double checked the rest of the electrics and everything is in working order: headlamp low beam, high beam with indicator, tail light, brake light, turn signals, neutral indicator lamp, oil pressure indicator lamp, starter safety interlock (starter only spins when in neutral), generator indicator lamp and horn.
