At auction is this 1948 Indian Chief.  This was purchased by my father in 1986 and was restored in the early ‘90s.  My father was meticulous and exacting in his restorations and used only original parts and occasionally only the best reproductions.  He restored many Indians and Harleys as well as antique aircraft over the years.  He knew what he was doing and did it as a hobby and for the personal satisfaction of “doing it right.” This motorcycle starts right up and runs perfectly, it needs nothing.  The miles shown on the odometer are a little over 27,000.   We do not know if that is the original mileage or not, but we know it has been ridden less than 500 miles since restoration.  The restoration included a complete rebuild of the engine, transmission, suspension; essentially nothing was left untouched.

The seat was newly recovered, the frame and all parts freshly painted and many parts were re-chromed at restoration.  It’s been covered, stored indoors, and lovingly maintained since.  The original front fender is included.  It was painted and installed but my father thought it was slightly twisted and wasn’t satisfied with the look and replaced it with a good quality reproduction that is on it now.  Also included is the original crash bar.  He didn't have it re-chromed and never installed it but we think it should stay with the bike.

Everything works as it should, the battery (6 volt) is new, the lights work, as do all controls. It is ready to ride and enjoy.

There is a small scratch on the rear of the front fender, very small and hardly noticeable. We tried to take a picture of it but it didn’t show up well enough.
