this bus is prepped and ready for a M/H conversion
My Dad purchased this bus a couple of years ago. It was his hope to convert it into an RV motor home. Unfortunately my dad passed away from cancer a few months ago and my Mom and I live outside the Florida area where the bus is stored and maintained.
We are listing this bus for sale in the hope that some else will carry out his dream.
The Bus is a Dallas Area Rapid Transit Bus (DART??) - 40' long and the more desirable 102" wide body model (not the skinnier 96" model). It has been maintained and stored in Ormond Beach Florida (a few miles north of famous Daytona Beach!).
It has a more powerful 330HP 6V92TA engine; many other transit 6V92TAs are only 277 HP. It starts INSTANTLY with little or no smoke (this is a great indication of a Detroit Diesel Engine wear - more and/ or longer smoke = more wear and less compression).
The engine is mechanical injection (MUI) - no complicated electronic DDEC to deal with. It would make a GREAT candidate for WVO conversion.
The transmission is an Allison V730 automatic transmission - no complicated electronic V731 ATEC computer - just a plain old mechanical shift selector lever. It has a 5.13 rear end ratio that lets it run out to approx 65 MPH.
The RTS rides on 6 air bags - two up front and 4 in the rear. The body is almost completely Stainless Steel and of Mono coupe construction - just like an airliner.
The troublesome and very heavy rear A/C has been removed (Its way too large for M/H use and uses almost 50HP and robs MPG ). This is a huge task that has already been taken care of.
The inside is stripped and ready for conversion. A piece of the rear floor was removed to give access so that the rear air bag mounts and iron frame rails could be easily checked for damage and rust - this is a TEXAS bus, so there is almost no rust - check the pictures of the undercarriage - in fact NEVER buy an RTS unless you check these areas out completely.
The body has a normal amount of deng and dents for a 1983 transit bus.
There is an R&M ( http://www.rm-fiberglass.com/ ) RV STYLE front door stored in the bus - It was purchased for over $750 not including the $800 shipping charges from the state of Washington to Florida.
The FINAL Ebay price will also cover the current $750 storage and Maintenance bill that is owed to the person caring for the bus in Ormond Beach. The caretaker is very active in the RTS Bus Conversion community (Pete RTS/Daytona) and will be able to show the bus upon request (...386..672..0571).
Final payment (LESS THE CURRENT $750 storage and maintenance bill) is due with 3 days of the Auction end. WITHIN 10 days the remaining $750 (Storage and Maintenance) is payable to Pete upon bus pickup. Title is free and clear and transfer will be upon pickup in Florida.
Any questions / concerns about the bus can be directed to Pete
Thank You
