1969 BMW 2000
For your consideration is my 1969 BMW 2000 4 door metro/retro beauty. Whether you remember the 2000 nostalgically or you’re seeking an out of the ordinary, super economical, roomy, daily commuter car or weekend fun car then this is your car. It’s 74,000 miles are correct and original.
The 2000 Series is the big brother to the famous 2002 2 door. My car is far more comfortable and spacious than the 2002 making it a better choice. The 2000 Series also rides better. The 4 door 2000 Series has become a bit of a cult car. They’re highly prized in Los Angeles by people in the know who want something chic and eco. I call this cute little 2000 "Metro/Retro" because being a 1969 model it certainly qualifies as somewhat retro and, too, it’s the perfect urban car because it snuggles into small parking spaces and is bullet-proof rugged.
Mine is equipped with automatic transmission and air conditioning making it more desirable still.
Beautiful cream/tan paint was applied over a straight body. A small amount of surface rust is poping up on the door. The black interior has been largely reupholstered using original or reproduction materials. The real wood trim is in good condition, too. (All but the wooden steering wheel) The interior is rip free! This car is not a show car! just a nice car!
Exterior stainless steel and chrome is in about average condition. There are a few minor dings or flaws in the rear bumper but there not terribly noticeable. The doors open and shut with a satisfying thunk and the car is virtually squeak and rattle free.
Tires are in very good condition and I’d guess that about 90% of their tread remains. The brakes are in great shape, the transmission shifts as it did and does so at the correct RPM intervals. The gas sipping 2 liter, 4 cylinder engine is in superb condition. As the car weighs about 2500 lbs. and runs on regular fuel it is a very, very economical car to own.
Parts are still available, so have no fear. The 2000 Series and this car specifically are the height of reliability. These cars rarely break. They’re just simply well made.
Known issues: The original Becker radio is non-functional but I’ll leave replacement to the new owner.
Value: A recent Hemmings Motor News listed a 1969 2000 for sale that appeared to be on par with mine condition-wise. That seller wanted $24,000! While I think that’s well out of line it does prove a point. These cars are cool, sought after, fun, easy to own and economical.
Now, please feel free to call me with any questions that you may have. You’ll find me to be honest and straight forward. I’m located in Tampa, Florida near-ish to Tampa’s world-class airport so I’d be delighted to pick you up should you wish to examine the 2000. My name is Gregg. My number is 1-813-334-9504. Thanks.
