I have available one of the rarest and most sought after Citroens that ever made it into the USA.
This is one of only about a dozen CX Prestige Turbo 2 models that were imported and sold back in 1987-1988. This is NOT a CXA car, but one that was imported by Bob Boston and his "Citroen Importers of North America" venture before he was closed down by the Feds! He never properly certified the cars, but this particular example has been mostly 'reconverted' back to its original form anyway. The previous owner, John McDermott, one of the best Citroen technicians on the East coast, completely went over the car mechanically about 2,000 miles ago and installed -
a new clutch, new tie rods, new lower ball joints, cleaned and flushed the cooling system, refitted the original CX fuel tank, and brought the emission/fuel injection system back to proper European spec.
The car drives like a dream! It is Super Fast, quiet, and comfortable, as a true CX should be! This car is the pinnacle of classic Citroen design and engineering. It rivals even the legendary SM in high speed long distance touring.
Originally, I purchased this car because it is in excellent mechanical condition to drive, and eventually to repaint and semi-restore to mint condition.
However, I have too many other (Citroen)projects now, and I decided I must sacrifice the CX Prestige to someone else who can enjoy it more than I can at the moment. So, I am reluctantly offering it to a new owner who can take up the baton in caring for this wonderful CX.
The specifics as far as good/bad points of the car are as follows...
GOOD POINTS - As I already stated, mechanically, it is fundamentally very sound and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. I've taken it on 300 mile trips during the past year with no issues at all. It is tight steering, soft riding, quiet, and FAST. It doesn't burn any oil as far as I can tell. The battery holds its charge for months! (some CXs have an electrical leak that makes them drain down over a few weeks) The odd 210mm size alloy wheels were replaced by Alfa Romeo 14" wheels by a previous owner at some point, so although they are not original equipment, at least now it will be far easier to get good quality, affordable replacement tires for it. (210mm Michelins are running close to $500/ea!) Also, the exhaust was replaced recently.
INTERIOR - The seats and upholstery are the grey Citroen OEM velour and it is in excellent condition! This interior is my favorite because it's comfortably cool in the summer and warm in the winter!
WHAT NEEDS ATTENTION: There are a few things the car should get to improve its appearance cosmetically... 1) The headliner is dropping in a few places (just the cloth, not the actual molded part) and should be re-glued or replaced, 2) The front bumper has a small crack in it under the right headlight, and should be glued and repainted. Also the front fender has a small dent (see photos) 3) There is minor rust starting on the bottom of 2 of the doors and on the under-side of the hood. The floor and the frame of the car seem to be fine. I will post photos that show these spots. 4) The speedometer/odometer unit makes a clicking noise and sometimes 'skips'. I haven't resolved this yet, but I believe it could have a drive gear that is slightly stripped. 5) There is no radio in the car.
If the car doesn't sell this month, I will fix the minor problems and give the car a good repainting later this summer and make it available for $12,000. If you would like to take over the freshening of this wonderful car and enjoy driving it in the meantime, you can bring it home now for only $7,900.
(note: I just returned from Europe.. these cars are becoming very difficult to find, and if you can find one, you will pay at least 10,000 Euros {$16,000!!} for a decent example!) also, I had to list this as a 1980 model because of the ebay VIN filter. It has, in reality, a 1988 Maine title. Lastly, as usual with eBay listings... if you have any questions.. Please Ask! I'm happy to answer all questions. I also have many spare CX parts and will help out any way I can if you are looking for replacement parts for your present or future CX.
