You’re looking at a 1967 Austin Healy 3000 Mark III BJ8 that needs a total restoration. The car was purchased in 1980 from a small dealership in the San Diego area and has been sitting since 1986.
The car condition is as follows:
Mechanical:
The engine was removed in 1986 to send out for a rebuild and unfortunately the shop went out of business and the block and head were never returned; however, the following are the original engine parts that were removed before taking the block and head to the shop and are included in the auction: Valve cover, two carburetor intake manifold with carburetors and air cleaners, exhaust manifold, starter, radiator, fan, generator, coil, motor mount stands, water pump, and, conveniently, a workshop manual. The overdrive transmission and drive shaft are still mounted in the car. The transmission was working fine when the motor was pulled in 1986.
Interior:
The interior was originally red and needs to be completely redone. At one time the car was driven to Tijuana, Mexico to have a saddle interior put on over the original red. I’ve taken all the saddle vinyl covering off that I could to show that it originally had a red interior. The convertible top frame is in great condition, not rusty or broken and goes up and down nice. All the gauges are nice, not rusty. The steering wheel is cracked.
Body:
The car looks like it was originally black (maybe repainted black twice in its life). I see no signs of it ever being wrecked in the front or rear. The front and trunk floors are rusty and will need to be replaced. The outriggers are rusted badly and will also need to be replaced. The passenger side front frame where the sway bar bolts to is rusted and will need to be repaired. The rest of the frame looks good, with surface rust only. The hood and trunk lid are nice and have no rust. The doors have surface rust only, on the bottoms, no holes going through. The windshield and door glass are nice, no cracks. All the body parts, fenders, doors, trunk lid, quarters are straight. All the chrome will need to be re-done. The grille is nice and straight, not bent. The wire wheels need to be re-chromed and the tires need to be replaced.
