Item Description

Up for auction is a 1968 Siata Spring. The Spring was produced from 1968 to 1970. The Societa Italiana Auto Transformazione Accessori, or Siata, was founded by Georgio Ambrosini and later was assisted by his son Renato. Siata was the tuning firm for Fiats. Breaking out on their own, Siata produced cars basically using Fiat components. The Spring was built by using stock Fiat 850 sedan mechanics and mounting a special body on a slightly modified (narrowed) Fiat 850 floor pan.
The Spring was trying to recapture the success and looks of the earlier M.G. T.D. Selling in Italy and exporting to Germany, France and the US, the Spring was oversold by anxious dealers who gladly accepted money down on the car. The factory could not keep up with the demand and with the irate customers and dealers hounding Siata at every turn, production ceased. Thus ending a great little car company. There were around 3,500 Springs produced and is thought that there is less than 350 cars that have survived world-wide.
I am selling this car for a friend and have nothing to gain from it's sale. My intent is to provide a honest, detailed description of the car's condition based on my inspection and my 30 years of experience in the collector car field.
The car shows 30,500 miles and looks to be correct. The engine starts with a touch of the key with no smoking, rattles, or knocks. The engine seems to be very tight with no leaks, the exhaust is tight and correct and runs very quiet and smooth. The brakes are non-functional because of a torn rear flex line. The wheel cylinders and master cylinder seem to be good but at this point in time there are no brakes on the car. The suspension is complete, one lower ball joint looks to be worn. The steering is tight and handles with very little effort. The interior is original and showing it's age. But, the door panels are very nice as well as the dash pad. The side curtains are complete but are in need of covering. The top and frame are complete. The top itself is in need of replacement. The overall appearance of the interior is presentable but in need of attention.
The body is very sound, the engine lid, doors and the trunk lid all fit well and operate proper. the paint is average, or below. it was painted several years ago and applied very dry, so it has a dull finish. the bright work is average for it's age and seems to be complete.Overall this unique little car seems to be very complete and in fair or good condition. But because of issues mentioned earlier it should be considered a project car purchase, NOT a drivable car.
I welcome and encourage any prebid inspection or any questions. Please call 217-259-1320 (Bob). Please do not bid to look, you are bidding to buy. I reserve the right to stop the auction at anytime and block anyone with no or negative feedback. There is a $500 Deposit due within 24 hours of the close of the auction.
The car is sold in where is as is condition, with no warranty or guarantee stated or implied.     GOOD LUCK! Happy Bidding!
