Item Description
Vehicle Description

LOW Reserve on this 1988 Military AM General - High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) Humvee for sale.  The Humvee is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early due to the local sale. The buyer is responsible for all shipping and delivery costs.  Cash or certified check accepted.  A deposit of $1,000.00 is due 24 hours after the auction ends and the balance is due 5 days after the auction ends.  The deposit is non refundable.  Winning bidder must contact me with in 48 hours to arrange pick up.  Please contact me with any and all questions before bidding at (316) 529-4369.   I bought the Humvee in the year 2000 from a retried Marine out of Jacksonville, NC who bought and sold military surplus.  I understand this to be a USMC HMMWV.  He applied for the VIN through North Carolina since military vehicles are not assigned one (NCS86284).    I titled the Humvee in Kansas who considers the truck to be a rebuilt salvage or kit type of vehicle.  The Humvee is titled as a 2000 Custom Truck since that is the year it was assigned a VIN.   When I bought the Humvee it was set up as a two person truck conversion which is included in the sale.  It will come with a four man soft top and four soft doors.  The soft top is in bad shape.  I would use it only for a pattern to have one made.  There are five run flat tires and rims.  The tires are old and showing signs of dry rot.  I had a temporary top put on the Humvee.  It is made of metal and wrapped in vinyl.  I was planning on removing it and making a vinyl top that could be dropped easily, like the safari type.    The soft doors are useable, but the new owner might want to use the frames and have new ones made to match the top.  The seats have been modified for more leg room.  The rails between the front and back drivers and passenger sides have been removed.  The front seats are from a van with frames which are adjustable.  The back seats are like jump seats.  They need to be covered so they all match.  The windshield on the passenger side needs replaced.  It is scratched and hard to see out of.  The Humvee came with a 6.2 engine.  In January 2003 I had a rebuilt 1992 GMC Diesel 6.5 Block installed.   I put in a temporary speedometer that shows 2,289 miles on it, I than put in the custom gauges that show the mileage is 755 miles.  The total mileage on the rebuilt 6.5 engine is 3,044 miles.  The mileage will increase some since I still drive the Humvee.  I installed a 24 volt to 12 volt reducer to run the lights, radio, gauges, and accessories.   The rest of the truck is still set up with the 24 volt system.  The glow plug control was replaced with a simple push button to warm them before you start it.  It is the black button to the left of the steering wheel.  I installed a Hydraulic Park Lock that is used as a parking brake since this year of Humvee didn’t come with park and the emergency brake is not strong enough to hold it.  It is the black knob in front and to the left of the shifter.  I had a locker rear end installed.  It makes sharp turns a little harder.  The original gauges, steering column and steering wheel were replaced with custom gauges, a Pontiac column, and Grant steering wheel.  I wanted to be able to start the Humvee with a key and not worry about it being stolen since there are no locks on the doors. The fuel gauge always reads full.  I don’t know if there is a ground wire off or the sending unit needs replaced?  The original dash was removed to make room for a flatter easier to see dash and dog house cover.  The Humvee has scratches and cracks on the hood and around the entire body, normal use.  In no way is the vehicle perfect.  It has a lot of potential, it could be repainted back to the camouflage color scheme if you desire.  I had it painted white to use in my business.  The Humvee is a lot of fun and attracts a lot of attention.   The Humvee is SOLD AS IS, there is NO warranty.  Thank you for looking at the Humvee and good luck bidding.
