Their were only about 550 of these made for USA and around 2200 total each one hand build by Lotus in England and shipped over. Lotus spent years designing this car and it was made to be there new break threw car designed w/ the buyer in mind. Lotus put a lot in design and comfort features which wasn't really there mind set in there other "race type" designed cars. They made it more roomy, wider, and with more truck space than any of there previous cars. I'm 6'3" and I fit just fine. It was the 1st front eng. car they made and the 1st time they teamed up w/ other car makers on the eng. amongst many other 1st. It was highly reviewed by all who reviewed it and blew away all its competition. Lotus paid $43k to make each one and had a sticker price around that when they were launched in Mar. 91'. This is great example of this car and is best to use as a driver than a show car but can become a show car as well. Has real nice roadster top (been replaced?), with no tears or fading. Sway bar was added,aded wind deflector behind seats to keep wind from blowing you away, recent tires $450, $4200 worth of work done to eng. and car over the last 5 1/2 yrs. including all the routeen maint. and any think else it needed including timing, drive, and a/c belt, a/c service, new water pump and its drain plug, new temp. sensor, belt tensioner, new radiator along w/ new radiatior hoses and fluid, valve cover gasket, new drive shaft boot, new "o" ring, new valve seats, new seals, full tune up w/ plugs etc., new ATF, up-graded to steel shift cables, new brakes and brake hoses, new injectors, all shocks replaced, etc. Has 2 sets of LOTUS floor mats and 2 sets of center caps for rims, interior is nice no fading or cracks. Paint is nice for age but not 100% perfect and body is straight, no dents or dings. 1.6l turbo eng. is strong and made by Isuzu so you know its strong, reliable and easier/cheaper to repair. 5 spd. shifts smoothly. Turbo works great, A/C works fine. Yahoo! UK called it "the finest front-wheel drive chassis bar none" and gave it a 4.5 out of 5 in handling. Motor Trend called it "One of the best handling cars in the world". In 91' it out performed the Ferrari in the slalom. Very fast car 0-60 around 5 sec. Can do 40 MPH in 1st gear and 100 MPH in 3rd. Great on fuel and according to the Lotus brochure it'll get 32 MPG @ 75 MPH and 42 MPG @ 55 MPH. Beat both 2000 Mercedes and Mazda Miata in tests and is a lot cheaper. Very forgiving car and most drivers can get it to perform at its best as designed. Clean title. reg. until Dec. Never in wreck. These are popular in Europe. This is one of the forgotten gems that is soon going to be re-discovered and sought after. Like the current Porsche 912 and BMW 2002 models. This car is a real head turner. Gets lots of looks. Anyone can own a Porsche, Jag, or Corvette but who has one of these? I'm a car guy and I never even heard of this car or saw one until I got this one. 1 pops up on ebay a month and I don't see them anywhere else. Always well maintained by local Lotus mech. You can talk to the mech. that did the work this car is well up to par and needs nothing mechcanically. I have the Orig. small Lotus manual but the last owner got it water loged so it still works but its not in mint cond. I have all almost every major article ever printed on this car all in a large binder. I have orig. parts, service and owners binder. All manuals mentioned are rare and hard to find in excellent cond. like mine are and sell for big $. I'll throw them in if bidding gets over $9.5k. Reserve is just over $8,500. MONEY TALKS! Parts can be had for this car and actually aren't as badly priced as one would expect. Much easier to repair since it has Isuzu eng. and isn't as rare as the Esprit where you have 100-500 being built yearly. Always a OC Ca. car.
