I have owned and loved the car for 3 years and need to give her up due to a lack of parking at my new apartment. The engine was rebuilt approximately 90K miles ago, and the transmission 50K miles ago, both before she came into my possession. The car came to me entirely rust-free from a professional auto body tech after some minor body work and a complete paint job in 2004 and is currently Ford Probe purple.
Over $1000 has been invested in this car since December of '07, including:
- New radiator and hoses
- New battery
- New ignition switch
- Rebuilt alternator with higher amperage
- New alternator and water pump belts
- Two new tires
- New exhaust from catalytic converter back (cat replaced in summer of '06)
- All new front control arm bushings and tie rod ends; alignment in May of '08
- New front wheel bearings and hubs
- New front pads and rotors; new rear brake shoes
- New cold start injector valve
- New fuel filter
- Injectors de-carbed in June during an engine tune-up
All of the above work was performed by a master certified VW/Audi technician. The car passed Massachusetts inspection for both safety and emissions in April of 2008, and successfully climbed (and descended!) Mt. Washington's auto road on Memorial Day weekend of this year. It is a daily driver, and gets approximately 33mpg- this is a safe and economical commuter car that's still fun to drive.
There are some issues beyond normal wear and tear for a 23 year old car- the biggest is body damage to the two passenger doors. The car was backed into while parked, damaging only the surface metal. It has been repaired, but there is still some rust at that spot, along with visible dents. Both doors still hang straight and work fine. There are two larger chips in the windshield, though neither one shows signs of cracking after two winters. All 4 window motors and the sunroof work, but the rear windows need new switches. The car also needs new inner and outer wheel bearings on the driver side rear- parts have been purchased and are included in the sale but have not been installed.
The picture of the passenger side was taken prior to the damage. Listing will be updated soon with more detailed photographs.
