You will notice that the hood is flat compared to most Spiders on the road today that are post 1970. They changed the engine after that year and added bumps on the hood to accomodate the size increase. It was fully restored between 1997 and 2000 by me, so I have receipts and an entire record of all work done. Here are the stats: 1438cc engine with Webber 2 stage carb, with 5 speed manual transmission, manual choke and throttle controls. Engine was overhauled on the top end and new gaskets and seals installed throughout. Upgraded voltage regulator system to a chip from the relay type that are external to the alternator. Cosmetic upgrades included new carpets, canvas top, all seats, dash, and custom hardwood throughout including dash and center console inlays, custom trunk carpet, and new hub caps. The paint is in fair condition, but the car was stripped of all trim before the color change from the original red to metalic burgundy. The bumpers, door handles, and other metalic trim were re-chrome plated. It was re-built totally stock with no other modifications.
Overall the car is in good running order, but it is still a FIAT so there are a few things that need attention. The synchro spring on 1st gear is out so it does not stay in place. It is a $20 part, but the transmission must be extracted and dissasembled to install. I've been driving it using 2nd gear to start out for 2 years now with no issues. There is slight body damage on the drivers side rear fender (see photo). Some webbing in the paint on the hood and trunk. The heater valve was replaced, however OEM was not available at the time so it must be operated manually from under the passenger dash. I've since found the correct valve but haven't replaced it yet.
I have every shop manual written for this car as well as catalogues for parts currently sold. So far, I've been able to find everything I've needed to keep her running, but no time to work on anymore. Happy to answer any questions you may have otherwise. I reserve the right to end auction early if the right offer comes up and the sale is for local pick up only.
Thanks for looking.
On Jul-14-08 at 11:09:27 PDT, seller added the following information:I've had several good questions regarding the car's condition so I'm adding more information.
Rust: A section of floor and wheel well on the drivers side were re-fabricated, welded in, painted and undercoated. Both rocker panels were replaced. The engine compartment was sandblasted, primered and painted grey when the engine was out. The seams at the cross section above the trunk were welded and blended smooth so no seams/cracks are visible. All other rust was minor and patched at the body shop when painted.
The clutch pedal and firewall where the cable lands have been reinforced, which is a common failure.
Oil Pressure: The guage has both an indicator light and needle, however, the needle does not read accurately. The pressure was checked when the engine was rebuilt with a guage at the sender and is within spec. I was told that purchasing a new guage and senders did not guarantee accurate readings, nor were they readily available. The indicator light is accurate.
Electrical: The headlight circuit was redesigned with a relay system that draws directly from the battery to avoid the dimming that was common when powered through the harness - they are bright. There is no pump for the windshield washer, but the system works if one were installed. The radio is a Kenwood tuner/cassette with alpine speakers in the front. The left turn blinker does not flash because of a bad contact in the steering column. I can open it, clean, and it will work for awhile, then stops - that's a FIAT for you :) On Jul-14-08 at 19:50:11 PDT, seller added the following information:More questions keep coming in so I'm adding yet more info. Brakes: The front calipers were replaced about 3 years ago, the master cylinder is vaccum assisted and was replaced in 2000. I have a fresh set of brake pads in the box that I will include. In addition, I have the OEM heater valve, new thermal sensor for the radiator, clutch alignment tool, bulbs, and the original ignition key that came with the car. If you look at my feedback on Ebay, you'll see that I believe in total disclosure for everything I sell so keep the questions coming and I will do my best to answer them all.
