Ultralight Powered Parachute. Manufactured by Spartan with 500sq ft parachute included.
I bought this for $9000 2 years ago on Ebay. I picked it up (this auction is Pickup Only also unless conditions at end of listing are met) in South Dakota and have flown it 4 times. I'm very cautious and only flew it in perfect weather conditions. Due to a birth defect I had to undergo heart surgery last year and my recovery (and medical bills) have prevented me from flying it more often and it's time to let someone else have a few thrills of their life.
The first 2 flights were in Iowa, it's very flat so I could see like 30 miles away easy. There's only 3 controls, the left foot steer bar, right foot steer bar, and throttle so my hands were free to take some breathtaking photos on a digital camera. Powered Parachutes are the most safe flight vehical there is. At all times from before to after take-off there is a fully deployed parachute above you. If the engine dies you fall at the fastest speed of 6 feet per second equaling the G-force landing shock lifting the unit 2 feet off the ground and dropping it. In other words uncontrolled landings are not very threatening as long as you dont land in water or near power lines. Basically just aim for the nearest field of green grass.
It is advisable to get training lessons before you fly and I will require a waiver be signed that you are responsible to get trained. I didn't get training but the first flight wouldn't have had my legs shaking so bad if I would have.
Flying is something I always wanted to do at least once in my life and I'll never regret or forget my experiences on this personal flight vehical.
Licensing was not required when i flew, you are responsible for knowing the FAA rules on ultralights and follow their guidelines. Walking into your local airport they will have an FAA regulations book they can go over the rules with you. My airport let me take off and land my ultralight anytime I wanted. We did not have commercial flights though so your airport may put timeframes in place for when you can use the field. I enjoyed the easy take-off and landings on the large area but my first two flights I actually took off in the 200 feet of grass behind my house and landed in the same area.
The unit holds 5 gallons of gas which will let you run for up to 4 hours and a distance of up to 75 miles (you'll probably only want to go half that distance so you can get back home)
There's turn key start and an electronics dashboard that will tell you fuel levels, RPM's, engine temps, rate of climb or decent, total distance from ground level (ground level is set to 0 from where you started the engine, this will be off if you take off from someplace lower elevation then where your flight path goes.
There's roughly a max climb and descend of 6ft per second full throttle and no throttle. The unit has a 65hp Roland engine liquid cooled radiator. There is an additional ground control stick to steer the front wheel.
This unit is a "Trike" so you can take off the prop guard, remove the parachute brackets, and install a hang-glider wing on the unit. This will increase your speed and control greatly but lower the overall safety on engine fails / gas out. I would suggest getting very comfortable with the parachute before upgrading to Fixed wing.
If the bidding goes over $7000 I will consider delivering to Minnesota locations, at or over $9000 and I will consider ND/SD/WI/IA locations Otherwise this auction is for Pickup only in Alexandria, MN
