This boat is a fun and easy to sail. It was manufactured by Johnson Boat Works in White Bear Lake, MN. The design is still manufactured by Melges Performance Sailboats. This particular boat spent most of its life at a girl scout camp. I bought it from the second owner about three years ago. My family had owned an X class when I was young, and I was so excited, I didn't notice the framing was mostly rotted out. About a hundred hours of labor later, I had replaced almost all the framing with new oak and had it ready to go. Unfortunately, I injured my back last year and don't think I will ever sail a boat like this again -- so time to sell it and make room in the garage.
The fiberglass is in good shape. When I rebuilt the framing, I reinforced the keel box and transom with some new glass. I installed a drain plug and an electric bilge pump (maybe one reason the original framing was rotted). I'll include the small deep cycle battery for the bilge pump. I had ideas that I would install a radio and maybe an electric motor, but never got around to that.
I didn't do much with the rigging. The main sail is pretty good. The rigging for the jib is a little off, as it is hard to set the jib high enough on the mast. It is still all pretty functional.
Here is what is included: - Fiberglass hull, oak framing. Cockpit measures 6'6" by 2'8". - Mast is wood, 19' tall. It looks like it has been repaired. I've never had a problem with it -- seems very solid. - Main sail in good shape. There were no battens with the sail, so I cut some "Menard's specials" from yardsticks -- they work well. - 2 jibs are included, one a little larger than the other. The photos I took show the larger of the two. The other one fits better. - Big heavy swing keel -- keeps the boat stable. - Big heavy iron rudder -- smooth to sail, also helps with stability. - Hiking straps and rudder extension -- works well when hiking out. - Spartan trailer in pretty good shape. Lights may need some work. Tires are good.
