Item Description
Vehicle Description

The Opel GT is a classic, small German sports coupe.  Opel is a German car maker owned by General Motors, and Opels were sold at Buick dealerships.  Sharing its styling with the 1968 Corvette but less expensive than its GM "cousin," the Opel GT was nicknamed the “Poor Man’s Corvette” or the “Mini-Corvette.”  The GT was produced from 1968 to 1973.  Sporty and economical, this fun car with great looks gets 22-24 mpg.

This car was completely restored about 5 years ago.  The original 1.9 liter engine has been bored out to 2.0 liters and rebuilt with new pistons, a new cam, new bearings, seals and gaskets, a new Weber 32/36 DGEV carburetor, new water pump, new thermostat, electronic ignition (replacing the points), plugs and wires, and all new exhaust system (manifold, exhaust pipe, muffler and rear resonator).  The intake manifold has been ported to match the carburetor.  It has a K&N air filter with a custom-made cool air intake.  An after market air conditioner system gas been added (factory a/c was not available on the GT).  The 4 speed manual transmission was cleaned up and the fluid changed.

The exterior includes “Steinmetz” flares, front spoiler and side skirts, and bullet style side mirrors (both driver’s and passenger’s sides).  All light housings, lenses,  and trim pieces are new.  The paint is Viper Blue Pearl.  NO RUST anywhere on the car.

The new interior includes a new dash cover, new carpet, new headliner, new door panels, and Recaro seats, and AM/FM stereo with CD.  All glass is in good condition.

The car has new wiring, new front and rear shocks, all new rubber window seals, new engine and transmission mounts, ball joints and suspension bushings.  The non-stock rear axle has disk brakes, giving the car four wheel disks.  The headlight rotation mechanism works perfectly with no binding.

The 3 piece wheels are 7 1/2" x 15”  front and 8 1/2" x 15” rear (with Opel "blitz" decals in the centers).  Tires are BF Goodrich Euro T/A 225/50 R15 fronts and 245/50 R15 rears.

It has about 67,152 miles total, with just 4200 miles since restoration.  It smokes a little, due to a slight leak past the valve stem seals in the #4 cylinder.  The engine has good compression, good oil pressure, and good power.  The car has a current Texas vehicle safety inspection (inspected April 2008).

I will also include the original Opel Service Manual.

Sold as is. Clean title in hand.  E-mail me with any questions.  Answers will be posted.  Please don’t ask what the reserve price is.  This is an auction, so bid what you are willing and able to pay.
