1982 porsche 911 sc targa light metallic blue 110k miles, rebuilt motor, tranny, suspension and controls.
This car is a great Drivers Ed car. It has a lot of mods and works very well at VIR. Many PCA members in "faster" cars have complemented it. The car is street legal and registered with antique plates in VA. This is a great running and reliable track day car. The tall 1st and 2nd gears and high rpm cam and suspension setup make this a better track day car than for auto-x.
This car was sustantially rebuilt aprox 2000 miles ago. The engine was rebuilt due to a broken head stud, engine was running great at the time of the rebuild. The top end was rebuilt with the exception of the piston rings, which is the preferred method on this model ( alumisil cylinder liners ). The engine has run perfectly since the rebuild and has participated in 5 PCA DEs and one nasa patriot TT and many autocross events. The motor is stock other than a 964 cam grind, high rpm limit valve springs, 1974 911 tuned header, glass pipes, aluminum light weight pressure plate, sport clutch disc, swapped fan pulley for higher ratio piece, K&N filter, cut airbox, HI PERF plug wires, and numerous reliability upgrades such as a pop off valve and hydraulic cam chain tensioners. It has been dynoed twice on a mustang dyno, the first time it made 165 WHP, later with corrected timing and warmed up 171whp. It has not been dyno'd since the headers and glasspipes but I would imagine about 175-180whp. The car was rated stock at 172-180 crank HP depending on what source you read. The engine has a custom high capacity oil cooler setup consisting of new lines to the nose of the car and a carrera oil cooler located in the nose of the aftermarket spoiler. The thermostat has been removed for greater reliability and the system holds 16 qts of 15 w 50 mobil one. The car will run at high speed indefinately without overheating. The transmission was rebuilt after I lost first gear. I bought a second transaxle and had it completely rebuilt and had installed custom 4th and 5th gear ratios for VIR and a shorter final drive and a factory limited slip differential. It has been filled with swepco blue fluid. The gearing was a big help at VIR. I have the gear charts. The suspension consists of bilsteins with sport valving, 22mm front torsion bars, 27mm rear torsion bars, adjustable 22mm rear sway bar. The car is aligned for maximum camber in the front and as much trail as I can get and 0 toe. The rear is setup for about 2 degrees of camber and a little toe in. The ride height is euro so it is streetable. The car feels very tossable and happy at track speeds. The brakes were bled and filled with blue, the backing plates have been removed, the front rotors were swapped for drilled discs, MM brake pads installed and the front wheel bearings have been replaced. I have two sets of front Fuch 16x7s one pair with MXs and one with hoosier Rs. I have one pair of rear 16x8 fuchs with MXs. I have one pair of red 16x9 ronals with hoosier As and one pair of red 16x8 ronals with hoosier Rs. The tires are all at least a season old. The are good for DEs. I have a spare also. And probably some unmounted used slicks. The car runs fairly substantial rubber, 245 front and 245 or 275 rear. The front fenders are rolled and the rear fenders are cut and extensions riveted on to allow the 275s. All of the controls including steering, brakes, throttle and shifter linkages have been rebuilt with new and harder bushings and many new parts to improve feel and offer greater reliability. The steering wheel was swapped for a lighter unit. The car has been substantially lightened. the interior is gutted and the a/c and radio and power antenna are removed. I have not cut anything in the interior so it could go back to stock. I removed the passenger seat out of this car when I no longer need an instructor, so the car does not have a passenger seat although it does have the slider for one still installed. It has a narrow kirky seat for the driver on the factory slider. I weighed the car at the local titan concrete scales and it weighed 2350lbs with 10 gallons of gas. The body has a one piece front spoiler and a rear early turbo tail. This car is in very good shape mechanically. The car has never been in an accident and the body is straight and rust free. Visually it is a entry level track car, it has about a million rock chips from the DEs. The first picture is the most current pic, the only difference being that the car no longer has the passenger seat.
This is not a race car. It does not have a cage, harness, or fire bottle. This is a very well prepped DE car. This was my first De car and I have outgrown it and it needs a new home. You should check my history, I have bought 4 race cars and sold one race car and one ducati and I have a 100% rating.
My best laps of vir full in this car were 2:26s
Heres is a old video of the car when it was still mostly stock and on MX's and I was still a novice (green) student. In this video I'm running around 2:32 laps in the green group traffic with the fsr pca at VIR full. The car is currently much louder and about 6 seconds faster.
