Item Description
The car you are bidding on is a 1960 Nash Metropolitan Convertible.

As you can see from the listing photographs, the dash is very clean. The original steering wheel has a Nash horn button instead of the bullseye (which will also go with the car), the factory AM radio works, the map light works, the speedometer and odometer work (mileage is 61,739), the wipers work, as well as the weather-eye heater system. The gas gauge works properly and gives an accurate reading. All 4 blinkers work as well as the dash blinker indicators. As you know, the 3-speed manual transmission is on the column and it shifts smoothly. The brakes and clutch work fine. There are driver and passenger seat belts.

All 4 tires are new Coker 560-13 Firestone  2 1/4” wide whitewalls and are the correct tires for this car. All four have beauty rings and the correct hubcaps with “M” logo. The front grille has a NEW Nash medallion on it (a NEW Metropolitan medallion will also go with car). The four piece grille surround is in very good condition (the bottom section is pitted but does not detract from the overall appearance).

The VIN#: E 82883 and the Engine is the original 1500cc. It has all the correct markings and tags on the block: #15F-N-H-24263 and Great Britain Patent #:565394. I have replaced the original generator with a replacement one (brushes needed cleaning and I thought it would be better to just replace the entire unit.) 4 new shocks (the correct ones) were also replaced as well as the correct oil filter. The generator, shocks, and oil filter were purchased from Metropolitan Pit Stop and were installed professionally. Oil and radiator have been flushed and changed regularly.

The interior has a good looking hounds-tooth upholstery on the front and back seats. There is a new convertible parade boot which finishes the overall look. The convertible white top (not new) has two minor tears (about 2 inches in length) over the drivers and passengers window but it fits well and the convertible plastic windows are clear and easy to see through. The Metropolitan Club and AAA license plate toppers shown in the some of the pictures have been removed and do not convey with this car.

There are a few blemishes below both doors which might be addressed by a serious show-car enthusiast. They can’t bee seen unless you’re standing 6 inches away. Personally, I wouldn’t go to the trouble. The underside of this car is RUST FREE which played a large part in my decision to originally purchase it. There are no areas on the floor boards or anywhere else that even show a hint of rust or any kind of rust repair. This was very important to me as I was buying this car sight-unseen and the person who recommended this car to me is a nationally well known mini-car collector/expert and happens to know this particular car very well.

This car performs great around town and for weekend drives to nearby locations. I have also driven this car on several longer trips (approximately 150 miles each way) to Boston for car shows and other related events — with never a problem. This car seems to do well at top speeds between 50-60 mph. at these distances, so highway travel should not be an issue.  This Metropolitan has always been garaged (before I bought it and afterwards) and has never been exposed to any of the elements associated with New England’s climate. As a note of interest: this same Metropolitan was featured on the front cover the October 2006 issue of the Met Gazette.
